It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to get back into Painter X. I recently discovered that Skillsoft has the book (through their partnership with Books24x7) Advanced Painter Techniques. This evening I started working through the book to learn the digital painting techniques. There are some interesting things I’ve learned that haven’t been presented anywhere else. For example, it is important to cover the canvas with an relatively neutral color. Not so much that you want the color but because you need to offset the effects of the monitor. When doing digital painting, you are in effect painting with light and this is different than painting with pigments. Without the neutral canvas wash you will overcompensate the tone due to the effects of the monitor light.
